Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things TC is thinking about today
HUMOR BUTTON: CAUTION: HUNGRY DIETER, MAY BITE IF PROVOKED
  1. I need to find some lean cuts of beef to integrate into my diet
  2. I need to buy some ground turkey or chicken
  3. I need to remember this is a lifestyle change not a temporary change and unless I plan on eating chicken every day for the rest of my life, I need to get some variety.
  4. I need to remember that my health needs to come first, if I am sick then I shouldn't feel guilty about not exercising, I am not being lazy, I am getting better
  5. I wish it would stop raining and get sunny. I really don't like dreary dull days like this.
  6. I need to get my butt in gear and get the spare room ready for my best friend who is coming to visit today.
  7. I am thrilled she is coming. She has lost 70 lbs and I am so amazed by her.
  8. She is struggling right now with motivation to continue and not lose her way. I would like to help her with that while she is here
  9. I would like to come up with some fun diet recipes to share with her while she is here. Some things to give her ideas.
  10. Maybe in motivating her, I can motivate me too.
  11. I hope I get better before she leaves. I have a guest pass to my gym and I would love to bring her one day so she can check it out.
  12. I wonder what effect caffiene has on my weight loss, I know I drink entirely too much coffee. I mean really too much. I drink about 1 to 1 1/2 pots of coffee a day. All by myself.
  13. I am grateful that I have my blog friends to help me keep on track. You guys Rock! thank you.

Weightloss Wednesday, Cravings and other stuff

I am still sick darnit! I promised Prince Charming I wouldn't go to the gym if I couldn't breathe this morning, and I can't. I hate that I am wasting time. I hate that I have been almost a week sick without getting to the gym. I hate that I have a whole week of this membership wasted without being used. I hate that my weightloss is probably slowed because the darned flu won't leave me alone. UGH!!

On a happier note, I am feeling good foodwise. I have some veggie ground beef that I am going to do something with for supper, but I have no idea what. I am soooo sick of chicken. I have eaten it every day pretty much for the last 2 or 3 months and I am at the point that I would rather eat old dirty socks than bite into another chicken breast. So, on grocery day, I am going to look for more veggie meats to add to my diet. I would kill for a nice big juicy steak all of my own. MMMmmmmm. . . . my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I NEVER crave red meat, I hardly ever eat it, but I will tell you something I could eat the heck out of real hamburger today. This is just so silly. Hopefully my veggie ground meat will help to satisfy my cravings.

Here are a few success stories to motivate you far more than my issues will, LOL.

  • Sharon's Weight Loss Success--great page with her story, tips, Before and After height and weight chart, and progress graphs.
  • Determined Dana--Just two years ago, when Dana bent over to tie her shoes, she could hardly breathe. Today, she feels the strongest she's ever been.

I guess that is all for today. Have a great day everyone, be good, have fun and happy dieting!

Getting better

Feeling a lot better now. I was still sick when I woke up and I decided not to go to the gym but other than lung congestion, I am feeling a lot better right now. I think tomorrow is the day I get back into the swing of things. I hate to let it go too long, but I feel like it would be a mistake to go while I was sick.

I did sneak a peak at the scales the other day. And, the weight gain was definitely a result of being sick. All that weight i gained was gone. I am not doing my official weigh-in until Saturday but I had to peak to see if I really gained 7 lbs in one week.

I am proud that I managed to stay on plan with all the drama going on around here the last couple of days. My husbands family were all in town at the same time and when that happens drama always ensues. So there it is. It is sad though. I wish it could be different.

Still Sick

Still sick. Ugh this sucks. Oh well, it has to go away eventually, right? I am doing okay food wise. But I hurt too much to go to the gym right now. Hopefully tomorrow I will be able to get up and out to the gym.

Since I am boring, sick and no fun, I figured, I would share this great article I found:

15 Weight-Loss Tips That Work
By Liz Zack 24/11/2004

Need some great suggestions on how to lose weight and keep it off for good? Few people know the road to weight-loss better than those who've already traveled it. We spoke to more than a dozen people, all of whom have lost between 26 and 94 pounds*, and asked them for their best tips on how to slim down.

If you've gotta splurge, splurge on veggies instead of chocolate. – Deena (lost 73 lbs*.)

I don't save too-big clothes anymore. If it's not a 10 or smaller, it goes to Goodwill! – Susan (lost 26 lbs*.)

A portion primer: Have half of what other people consider a "regular" serving. – Hilda (lost 45 lbs*.)

Weight management starts in the grocery store. Don't bring it home if you can't control it. – Stephanie (lost 35 lbs*.)

I love regular soda and hated the diet stuff until I started adding a lemon slice — instant taste! – Michelle (lost 65 lbs*.)

Try 94% fat-free microwave popcorn. If I'm in the mood for spice, I add Cajun seasoning. If I want sweet, I'll sprinkle one packet of sugar on it. – Helene (lost 94 lbs*.)

Rather than pouring dressing all over your salad, dip your fork into the dressing (which you order on the side) before spearing the lettuce. You'll be using 1/3 the dressing but getting a satisfying taste. – Diane (lost 50 lbs*.)

It's not about eating as little as possible but eating what your body needs. Eating too little may slow down your metabolism. – Amy (lost 35 lbs*.)

When you're at a party, split one portion in two. Then you can go back for seconds. – Karen (lost 91 lbs*.)

Look your best during the losing process. Don't wait to buy new clothes until you've reached your goal weight. Buy pants that fit you now. – Stephanie (lost 35 lbs*.)

I do a lot of self-talk. I keep telling myself, "I don't need this chocolate bar. I don't need this chocolate bar." – Caroline (lost 37 lbs*.)

Substitute a small spoon for the bigger one. That way you can enjoy the cereal, soup, whatever for a longer period of time. And keep a one-cup bowl handy so that you don't have to measure all the time. – Ricardo (lost 61 lbs*.)

Frozen dinners are a quick and easy way to watch your calorie intake and portion size — especially if you're working late and might otherwise order take-out! – Sandra (lost 44 lbs*.)

Don't give up your favourite high-fat recipes, just tweak them and make smart substitutions. – Michelle (lost 81 lbs*.)

My friends and I love to eat out socially — a lot. Still, I've found that if I bring a snack or eat before I join them, I set myself up for success. – Nicole (lost 56 lbs*.)

ugh sick

I got really really sick last night. So that could possibly explain the weight gain. I am feeling pretty miserable. I think I have only eaten about 7 points today so far. I am just feeling pretty yucky.

Tales from the Scale

OMG I am up sooo much this week. I am 203 lbs!!!! I was 196 last week. There is no way I ate enough to be up that much!!! I will not let it get to me. I will NOT get depressed.

And tonight I am getting dragged to a wedding for someone I despise. But I am being a good girl and going with a smile on my face. I was out yesterday helping to get the hall ready for this person and I almost passed out from low blood sugar while waiting for some form of healthy food to come my way. I have no idea what I ate after that. I was kind of foggy and sick for a while.

I am still going to try to be good and eat good today and I am going to keep going to the gym.

Friday Five

Five good things I have learned about myself on this journey.

  1. there is nothing I can't do if I try it and I am determined to do it.
  2. my weight was effecting my health in more ways than I knew about.
  3. I can look like that girl I see in my high school picture but older and wiser.
  4. I can be proud of how I look.
  5. I can feel sexy again.

Five things that are not so great for dieting that I learned about myself and am working to correct:

  1. I turn to food when I am stressed and it DOES make me feel better.
  2. I am hopelessly addicted to coffee. Terribly, dreadfully, absolutely addicted.
  3. I tend to put myself last a lot. Especially when it comes to who to spend money on. (Like buying the more expensive healthy foods.)
  4. It wasn't the way I held my head, I DID have double chins in all those pictures.
  5. The camera DOESN'T add all that weight. I WASN'T just big boned, I WAS fat back then.

I am finding my muscles sore today. But I went to the gym anyway, and I still did the treadmill for twenty minutes after doing the circuit. And guess what? I had it all done and back home again by 9:30.

Thursday Thirteen--Diet Humor

Thirteen Things TC found Funny today
  1. HUMOR BUTTON: CAUTION: HUNGRY DIETER, MAY BITE IF PROVOKED
  2. DIETING IS WISHFUL SHRINKING
  3. SKINNY PEOPLE TICK ME OFF!!! Especially when they say things like, "You know sometimes I forget to eat." Now I've forgotten my address, my mother's maiden name, and my car keys, but I have never forgotten to eat. You have to be a special kind of stupid to forget to eat.--SIOUXSIE Q
  4. DIETING IS THE PENALTY FOR LIVING BEYOND YOUR SEAMS. --Daniel L. Worona
  5. A diet is the modern-day meal in which a family counts its calories instead of its blessings.
  6. Most people gain weight by having intimate dinners for two...alone.
  7. The toughest part of a diet isn't watching what you eat. It's watching what other people eat.
  8. EVERYONE had weighed in, and our diet-workshop leader began her lecture on the week's topic — the problems of dining out. She talked about alternatives, such as requesting diet sodas and dressings, and having meat broiled instead of fried. Finally she turned the question over to the group for discussion. "What is the greatest problem you encounter when going out to eat?" Replied one woman quickly, "Running into you!"
  9. NEVER a good dieter, my mother was in the "on-again" phase of her "on-again, off-again" diet plan. She loves sweets, and one day I caught her pouring chocolate syrup into a cup. "What are you doing?" I demanded. "I'm saving calories," she insisted. "I'm eating it without the ice cream."
  10. AFTER noticing how trim my husband had become, a friend asked me how I had persuaded him to diet. It was then I shared my secret: "I put our teenage son's shorts in his underwear drawer."
  11. AFTER my husband asked me to help him shed some unwanted pounds, I stopped serving fattening TV snacks and substituted crisp celery. While he was unenthusiastically munching on a stalk one night, a commercial caught his attention. As he watched longingly, a woman spread gooey chocolate frosting over a freshly baked cake. When it was over, my husband turned to me. "Did you ever notice," he asked, "that they never advertise celery on TV?"
  12. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst, for they are sticking to their diets.
  13. Coffee, Chocolate, Men ... Some things are just better rich.

Weight Loss Wednesday

Off to the gym this morning and I am really looking forward to it. This morning I am feeling energized and ready to tackle anything. I already have a load of clothes on the line and the kitchen cleaned at it is only 8:12 am. So I am off to a good start.

I feel like I am having a bad week food-wise. I really need to get it under control if I want to see the results from going to the gym. I will be better for the rest of the week.

I love to read weight loss success stories. It reminds me that this can be done. People have lost more than I have. People have had troubles and obstacles but they succeed and lose weight. It inspires me to keep at this and finish my journey. So, I thought it would be fun and inspiring to share a couple of weight loss success stories.

Farah's Big Break -- After some serious yo-yo-ing, this actress got with the plan in her 20s—and inspired her whole family to get healthy.

Hi Ho

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, its off to the gym I go. I am going to the gym this morning. I am a little sore from Saturday but nothing major. I really considered going back to bed after she left for Daycare, but I decided not to. Be proud of me, my bed was calling out to me loud and clear!

Do you watch Big Brother? I was heartbroken when Howie left. It is so sad that his friend took him out. They didn't show on the television how completely devistated and heartbroken Janelle was.

I feel like this is a going to be a great day. I know I will stay on track and starting off with a trip to the gym is a good way to go. I do wish I had something nice to wear to the gym though. Oh well, at least I am going that is the important part.

Sunday Stuff

I went to the gym and worked out and I LOVED it! I felt so good, and I am proud of me for doing it. I was careful about my knees but I tried everything and I could it.

I got Tip Tagged by Iportion and Living to Feel Good I figure getting tagged twice means I give you two tips. So let me think . . . . mmm . . . what tips can I think of.

I guess my first tip is to allow yourself to eat the food you love. Allow for treats and that keeps you from feeling deprived and breaking down and binging when your willpower is down.

My second is to use this change in your eating to try new things. I have been having fun trying all kinds of new healthy alternatives and it makes it fun. I have also come up with a few new favorites that I would never have thought of.

I went over my goal points yesterday. It wasn't worth it. I had an upset stomach. Ugh. I am thinking of taking the points off my other days.

Food for Sunday
  • 2 points--ww tortilla
  • 2 points--peanut butter
  • 1 point--jelly
  • 0 points--coffee

196 lbs BABY!

I am down another 3 lbs!!! Woohoo! I am well into One-derland now never to see the land of 2xx lbs again! Woohoo!!! I am so happy! I realized last night that at this point I have lost 20 % of my body weight. That is incredible to me. wow!

I am heading off to the gym today to officially fill out my membership. I am excited to actually be doing this.

Since I am feeling so great, I thought I would share an inspirational Weight loss story and her tips today.
Andriette Ward, a pediatric obesity specialist at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, knows firsthand about struggling with weight: she once weighed as much as 290 pounds. Now, after years of on-again, off-again diets and rollercoaster scale readings, she's learned a few things about fostering a healthy attitude to food.

Number One: The foods I'm craving now will be available tomorrow. Pepperidge Farm and McDonald's are not going out of business anytime soon. My obsession with a particular food will eventually pass if I work through it.

Number Two: It's okay to ask for help. Sharing my vulnerabilities actually strengthens me.

Number Three: Food is just for the nourishment of my body; it will not solve anything else pressing in my life.

Number Four: Taking the time to prepare my meals in
the morning, even if it means I'll be late for work, is an expression of self-love.

Food for Saturday:

After you get there

do you think about what will happen after you get to your goal. Do you dream of finally being able to eat what you want to, or do you plan on dieting and watching what you eat for the rest of your life. Do you think that this ever becomes a natural way to eat? Do you have any idea what you will do to keep this weight off once we get it there?

I personally think that I have had over 30 years of eating to prove I don't know how to feed myself right. I know that given the opportunity I will feed myself too much or too little. So, I need the guidance of ww points to help me to know how much is enough. I believe I will need that guidance for the rest of my life, but I do think that at some point some of it will come more naturally for me.

Here are some of my ideas for keeping the weight off once I get to goal.

  • Be realistic. Losing weight will improve my health and give me energy, but it won't cure other problems and make me suddenly happy if I am not already happy.
  • Exercise. Being a more active person is the only way I will be able to stay the way I want to.
  • Weigh regularly. I will need to be aware of how much I weigh and if I catch any gains early, I will be able to counteract them quickly.
  • Reward myself. Treats like a manicure, an afternoon in the park or a day shopping at the mall to celebrate maintenance milestones.
  • Keep up the work. I need to keep reading labels, measuring portions and tracking what I eat. This is a marathon not a sprint. I need to be in this for the long haul.

Food for Friday

  • 0 points--coffee
  • 2 points--banana
  • 3 points--fruit and yogurt
  • 2 points--tuna on ww bread
  • 2 points--granola bar

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things TC enjoys eating that are good for my diet
  1. Weight Watchers Bread-- I am loving having bread to eat that is high in fibre that does not eat up bunches and bunches of points
  2. Sugar Free/Fat Free yogurt--I love that this is a creamy yummy snack that is only one point for a serving. I have some great flavors including a chocolate cherry and strawberry vanilla that are wonderful.
  3. Low Fat Granola Bars--I have a thing for chocolate, and the little chocolate chips in these along with a cup of coffee are a nice treat for me.
  4. Egg Beaters/Egg Whites--I add a little salsa or onions and it is great. I love having a good breakfast, getting a good start on the day and not using up a lot of points to do that.
  5. Low Fat Cheese--I love cheese, having a little low fat cheese makes some meals seem so much more of a treat. (I can't wait to get a set of kitchen scales so I can more accurately judge my points)
  6. Chicken Breasts--I buy a box of boneless, skinless, chicken breasts and that serves as about half of my meals. I love that it is so easy and quick. I just put it in the oven with veggies, salsa, tomatoes, or just some seasoning and I have a yummy supper.
  7. Veggie Ground Round--I just tried this last night. OMG! It was so good, I made a simple chili out of it and it was wonderful. This is definitely a product I will be adding to my rotation.
  8. Veggie burgers--I love having a burger I can have when Prince Charming and the Little princess are having hamburgers. Quick and yummy.
  9. Veggie or Low Fat Frankfurters--Like burgers it is nice to have a low points alternative. I really like the low fat ones with salsa. YUMMY!
  10. Fruit Cups--I have orange sections in fruit cups. I really enjoy them as a quick, handy snack.
  11. Smart Pop Popcorn--I love that this a treat I can sit and watch television mindlessly muching on enjoying a great movie with Prince Charming and it is only 2 points for the whole bag!
  12. Frozen Veggies--I have some veggies frozen that are either 0 points or low points. I like using them in place of starchy alternatives. So I have chicken with veggies instead of chicken with potatoes, pasta, fries, or rice.
  13. Salsa--I have been using a lot of salsa lately. I cook my chicken with it, I put it in my egg beaters and I eat my low fat frankfurters in it. It is a yummy way to add a lot of flavor.

Weight Loss Wednesday

So, it is Wednesday and I was wondering some things:

  1. Did you go to a doctor before you started on your weightloss journey? I did this time, but I moved before I could really get any assistance from him other than it was a good idea for me to lose weight. My goal weight I did get from a doctor.
  2. What foods do you avoid? Other than the obvious high fat/calorie ones what do you avoid? Do you avoid salt, caffiene, etc? I really don't avoid much but I have been eating less red meats, based simply on points values, I have been eating more chicken and fish and I have just started adding in some veggie products that I am really enjoying
  3. Do you have a time you stop eating before you go to bed? I really don't. In fact I usually save a few points to enjoy as a treat while I watch a show like BB7. My favorite snack lately has been a granola bar, popcorn, and water. It takes the place of my chips, chocolate bar and pop of days gone by.
  4. Are others in your house on a diet too, or are they following your plan? No one else in my house is following my plan, in fact I have all kinds of foods for my little princess because she is too little. I cook a seperate meal for them and for me.

-------------------------------------------------

Things are okay with me today. I have a headache but other than that I am fine. I am looking forward to going to the gym next week. This is going to be a nice change for me, a little me time.

Tuesday Ten

Well, as I said, I went to the gym yesterday to get myself checked out and to see about joining. I have had one side effect. while I was there, she tried me on several of the machines to give me a rundown on how they work. I told her that I have had some issues with my knees in the past and so she tried to account for that. But last night . . . . OMG . . . did my knees hurt. I was up half the night with pain and swelling in my knees like I haven't had in months.

I am glad that I am joining the other gym, and not curves because if it turns out that the machines on the circuit are too much for my knees, this other gym has a lot of other equipment as well. So either way, I will still be able to go in and work out. I am going to give it another shot (maybe avoiding that one machine). But last night was NOT fun for me.

I thought I would share the Top 10 Things You Can Do to Maintain Your Weight
  1. Take a walk. America is in the midst of an obesity epidemic, which is slated to only get worse over the next decade. An extra 20 minutes of physical activity a day, or an additional 2,000 steps, is all we need to avoid weight gain, according to Dr. James Hill, obesity researcher and co-founder of America on the Move. How do you know how many steps you're taking? Clip a pedometer to your belt and get moving! Everything from walking the dog to grocery shopping counts.
  2. Eat an apple. Apples contain 15 percent of the recommended daily allowance for vitamin C. In addition to contributing to overall health, fruits rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant, have recently been linked to a decreased risk of coronary heart disease and cancer. Fit two to three servings (or more) of fruit into your daily diet.
  3. Say no to trans fat. Like saturated fats, trans fats raise total cholesterol and LDL, the "bad" cholesterol levels. Trans fats also lower levels of beneficial HDL cholesterol in the body. Additionally, consumption of trans fats may inhibit the absorption of healthy fats that are necessary for the growth and functioning of vital organs.
  4. Go easy on the booze. This means an average of one to two drinks per day for men and one drink per day for women. (A drink equals 12 ounces of beer, 4 ounces of wine, 1.5 ounces of 80-proof spirits or 1 ounce of 100-proof spirits.) Drinking more than moderately can increase the risk of such dangers as alcoholism, high blood pressure, obesity, stroke, breast cancer, suicide and accidents.
  5. Get a doggie bag. Portion sizes in restaurants and fast-food chains have exploded in recent years, and many of us just can't help but clear our plates. Ask for a to-go container when you order. That way you can pack up half your entrée to enjoy the next day.
  6. Have a yogurt. It's no secret that calcium helps keep bones strong, but there's more reason than ever to eat yogurt for bone health. Some yogurt brands now contain inulin, a naturally occurring, fiber-like carbohydrate that's found in fruits and vegetables. Inulin has been found to increase the activity of live cultures and prevent the growth of harmful bacteria in the digestive tract. Best of all, it aids in the absorption of calcium.
  7. Take your vitamins. A study in the Journal of Nutrition showed that taking a daily multivitamin reduced the risk of a first heart attack in both men and women. Authors of the study think this effect is due to the B vitamins found in multivitamins, as well as the antioxidant vitamins, C and E, selenium and beta carotene. Vitamin supplements are no substitute for the nutrients you get from food, but they're a good way to cover your bases.
  8. Hold the salt shaker. Excess sodium intake can lead to high blood pressure (hypertension). More than 50 million Americans — or one in four — have high blood pressure and a third of them don't know it. High blood pressure contributes to the risk of heart and kidney disease and stroke. Use fresh herbs to boost the flavor of the foods you cook — you'll get lots of delicious flavor, without the sodium.
  9. Switch to whole grains. Whole grains are richer in nutrients and fiber than refined grains. Whole grains help keep you regular, too. Reach for whole-wheat bread over white and brown rice over white. Popcorn and oatmeal are whole grains, too.
  10. Hit the water cooler. Water is important for all metabolic processes in the body. It also helps with digestion and weight loss and improves the appearance of your skin. Drinking eight to 10 8-ounce glasses of water each day is key, but eating foods with a high-water content (like fruits and vegetables) also will contribute to your water intake.

Monday Madness

Well this has been an eventful day and it isn't even noon yet.

My little princess is back in daycare now that her pinkeye has cleared up. She is thrilled.

I had a meeting at Curves to look into joining the gym just for more motivation to work out and for something to change it up a little. On the way home, I passed another womens gym that has a similar style. I went in and checked it out as well. There are more membership options and the price is a little lower, so I am thinking of giving them a shot. I did get all my measurements and my body fat checked out at Curves while I was there and I was right. I do have less body fat than other people my weight. That was nice to know.

I got this great recipe for Taco Soup from Living to Feel Good that I can't wait to try out.

Oh and it is my fifth wedding anniversary today, but we are going to celebrate on friday as that is payday.

Taco Soup
1lb extra lean ground turkey
1 can 28 ounce diced tomatoes
1 can 16 ounce pinto beans
1 can 16 ounce black beans
1 can 16 ounce corn
1 pkg of ranch seasoning
1 pkg of taco seasoning
1 1/2 c. of water
In a large pot cook the ground turkey. Once it's done add all the ingredients. Simmer for 45 mins. Enjoy!
1 c. = 2pts
How simple is that?? A perfect dinner when you are low on points!!

Diet Articles or interest

I read this article here says that people who drink diet soda on a regular basis are obese. Do you think that is true? Do you think it is a result of the diet soda or because the people who are more likely to choose diet soda are the overweight ones? Will you let this article affect your decisions about diet soda?

I read another article here that said that children are more likely to learn about dieting from their family than from the media. Were you affected by food, diet and image talk in your household growing up? Did talk in your house effect your self image? How does this affect your ideas about talking about these subjects around kids?

What's In Your Fridge

What's In Your Fridge is what was asked at Living to Feel Good. Wouldn't it be neat if we all took pictures of our fridges to share? If anyone post their fridge let me know! I want to see it!!

I went grocery shopping and now for the most part our fridge and panty looks healthy (barring a few snacks that Prince Charming and the Little Princess have). There are lots of fruits and veggies, skim milk, egg beaters, ww bread, fat free/sugar free yogurt, and low fat dressing.

In the pantry, there are lots of tomatoes, mushrooms and beans for things that I use. Then there are soups and snacks for the Little Princess. I think it looks pretty organized. Too bad little fingers keep it from staying that way.

I weighed in today. It is TOM and I have no change. Oh well maybe next week.

Little note: check out what my wonderful best friend said HERE talking about me. I am humbled and lucky to have a friend like her.

Friday Stuff

Well it is friday and I had a visit from TOM so I know I will not be weighing in at a good weight tomorrow. Ugh. I hate that. I almost feel like skipping the weigh-in tomorrow.

I did get my hair done. I think it looks okay. here it is after just washing it and nothing else. I think it nice because it is casual and easy and it takes advantage of all the natural body my hair has. Of course it would look better if I had spent more than 3 seconds doing it but that is the life of a mom.

Tagged! Five weird thing/habits about me.

I got tagged by Weight For Baby. Here are the rules:

Here are the rules: The player of this game starts with "5 weird things/habits about yourself ". In the end you need to choose 5 people to be tagged and list their names. The people who get tagged need to write a blog about their 5 weird things/habits, as well as state this rule clearly, then tag 5 more victims. Don't forget to leave your victim a comment that says "you're tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

So here are mine.

  1. I'll start with an odd one that no one would expect to spread around to all my blog buddies. I have one breast bigger than the other. I swear! And as I lose weight the difference gets more and more noticable.
  2. I have only 3 pairs of shoes. My nice dressy ones, my nice office type ones and my comfortable keds. I never own more than that.
  3. If I don't get mail, I tend to check the mail again and again over the course of the morning like the mail will magically appear when I am not paying attention. I can blame this on the fact that I never knew when our mailman is coming but it is still weird.
  4. When I am stressed, I get bad dreams. I always do, especially if I am stressed and hiding it from everyone.
  5. When I am alone in the house, I forget to eat. I am so used to judging my eating by preparing meals for my Little Princess and Prince Charming that when I am alone, I forget to eat until I am starving and shaking. It is strange. You wouldn't think that someone with my weight issues would forget to eat.

There I have told you all of my strange little habits. So now it is my turn to tag someone else:

Weight Loss Wednesday

It is Weight Loss Wednesday. This is the day we get motivated and get tips. I thought today we could share the recipes for weight loss. Share three things with me:

  1. Tell me the favorite thing you have for lunch.
  2. Tell me your favorite must have on hand low points or low calorie snack
  3. Tell me your favorite meal to make for supper.

Here are mine:

1. I like to have chicken noodle soup, a salad, and fruit with yogurt for lunch. Only 4 points and it is yummy!

2. I have to have sugar free/fat free yogurts (1 point) and low fat granola bars (2 points). They satisfy my sweet tooth. My new favorite addition is Smart Pop Popcorn (2 points).

3. I like to take a chicken breast, and pour an entire can of diced tomatoes on it along with some onions and green peppers and some seasoning. I roast it in the oven until the chicken is cooked and the tomatoes are bubbling. I really enjoy this.

The other thing I like to eat is chicken breast mixed with fat free chicken broth and 0 point veggies. Again I roast it in the oven until everything is cooked. I usually add a little garlic, pepper, salt, and onions. I find it a yummy filling supper.

So, tell me . . . your recipes and tips!

Scale Talk

I have a strange relationship with my scales. I weigh in a lot. Almost every day. But I only really count the weight on the scales on WEIGH-IN DAY.

I swear the scales are like an old friend named Martha that I must chat with before I start my day. But at the same time, I dread what they will say. What if I am up? Will that ruin my whole day? So before I step on the scales I have these little conversations in my head. Things like, "Well you know you did just have that big glass of water." or "You know AF is due and you always weigh higher at that TOM." I psych myself up so that if I step on the scales and I am up, I am okay with it and I don't count it as being a terrible failure on my part.

Now Martha is old and she isn't digital. She changes her mind depending on where I put her and how I stand. So, I am looking to replace her with fine young digital model that is more accurate. But I have this little fear. What if when I get the new model, I am no longer below 200 lbs. I am so proud to finally be below there and if I am not, I will be disappointed. But then again, if I am on those scales it will almost make it more real, you know.

See I used to really obsess over the scales (no trust me it can get worse than this). I used to weigh myself a lot. Every time I ate, I weighed myself. It was stupid and I was obsessed. And the number on the scale had the power to affect my mood and everything I ate from then on. So, now, I have all these little conversations with myself to keep me from becoming that crazy psycho lady with all those crazy thoughts going in my head.

Now, I am almost normal, if you ignore the fact that I talk to myself and that my scales are named martha, my computer is Bob and my coffee perk is Sally Jr.

Do you do any of this stuff? Tell me I am not alone in this crazy little world of mine.

A brand new week

Mmm . . . Monday, the beginning of a new week. A fresh beginning to get things right you did wrong last week. I know that on the calendar Sunday is the beginning of the week, but to me the week will always start on Monday. I guess it is a remnant of going back to school on Monday after a weekend of fun.

And since it is Monday I figured I would post some diet tips to help us get this week off on the right start! Then maybe in your comments you can share yours. Let's help each other out in this thing.

  1. Eat when you are hungry.
  2. Eat sitting down in a calm environment. This does not include the car.
  3. Eat without distractions. Distractions include radio, television, newspapers, books, intense or anxiety-producing conversations, and music. (I really need to work on this one)
  4. Eat only what you want. (you would think that this is a given, but it really isn't)
  5. Eat until you are satisfied. (even when you are trying to lose weight, don't be hungry all the time)
  6. Eat (with the intention of being) in full view of others.
  7. Eat with enjoyment, pleasure, and gusto.

Empty Plate Syndrome

I have empty plate syndrome. Blame it on my parents but it haunts me to this day. It is the one part of my weight loss journey I am still fighting. When we were kids, dad always said, "You don't have to get seconds, but you have to eat everything on your plate." To this day, I have such guilt when I leave food on my plate and don't eat it.

Yesterday when I was eating supper, I was full, but there was only a little bit left and I really should waste good food. So I ate it. Ugh. My belly was about to explode and I felt like I lost the enjoyment of a good meal all because I am too dumb to leave a little food on my plate if I am full. It is even worse if I happen to experiment with my food and make something I don't like. I can't tell you how many times I have forced down a meal. I am sitting there thinking, "this is really bad. This is an awful lot of points to waste on something this bad. I really should put this away. This is really really bad." All the time, i am shovelling spoonful after spoonful of this stuff into my mouth until it is all gone. Then I finish and I sit there thinking, "That's why you're fat. If you don't want it or you don't like it. Don't eat it. Even your four year old knows that." But every time I finish eating my plate has to be completely empty.

So here I am confessing to the world, "Hello. My name is Twisted Cinderella and I have Empty Plate Syndrome."

Yay me!

I did it! I did it! I am finally in One-derland! I weighed in this morning at 199 lbs! woohoo!! That means I have lost 51lbs so far! woohoo!!

Being alone isn't making me eat more. It does mean that I have to remind myself to eat. When others are around, I have to prepare their meals which makes me hungry which means I eat. But when I alone, I suddenly find myself saying, "Mmmmm . . . . I'm starved. What time is it . . . . It's WHAT??? Well make no wonder I'm hungry" and off I go to find something healthy to eat. So, I don't think this weekend will be detrimental to my weight loss.

I do have my high points day today. I am thinking of cooking the foods that Prince Charming hates but I love. Hey, he isn't here, I may as well enjoy it. The house can stink of fish and I don't care. LOL!

I am in such a good mood today. Weight loss party at my place!! Have a great weekend everyone!

Alone

Today i am going to be completely alone in my house, until my baby comes home from day care. This weekend, Prince Charming is away volunteering with an event at the Boys and Girls Club in a town several hours away. So, the Little Princess and I will be all alone all weekend. I wonder how this will affect my eating habits. It has been so long since I have spent so much time alone, I am a little nervous. You would think that on the last night before he goes away for 4 days we would have spent the evening together. But no, I watched Big Brother and So You Think You Can Dance and he spent the evening surfing the web. We are such an old married couple. LOL. There is a comfort in knowing he is there though. So wish me a healthy weekend and good luck on my weigh-in tomorrow for my first Saturday Weigh-in. I hope I am in One-derland.

Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things about TC
I am stressed today, as it is my baby's first day of preschool. This is usually bad for my diet. So today, in my thursday thirteen, I will post thirteen things I have learned about myself since starting losing weight. This should help motivate me to stay on track.
  1. I over eat when I am stressed or upset
  2. Even though I am getting smaller, I can't bring myself to believe it when I go shopping.
  3. I can be satisfied with a meal without meat in it.
  4. I am more willing to experiment and try new things if I am not giving them to anyone else.
  5. I can't do this alone. I need the support that my blog friends give me.
  6. Motivation is important.
  7. I have to be doing this to make me happier, not to make anyone else happier
  8. I like hummus
  9. I don't need to fill up on a lot of pasta, breads, and potatoes.
  10. Veggies make wonderful subsitutes for the above.
  11. tomatoes are my new favorite food.
  12. I am loving fish and chicken lately.
  13. I am capable of losing weight and being healthier. I can do this.

Experimenting

So I am experimenting with my supper. I have tomatoes and 0 point veggies I am going to stir it into some macaroni for what sounds like a fairly low point yummy supper. I'll let you know how it turns out.

incidentally

I have no idea what to make for my supper. I am completely at a loss. Help keep me motivated guys. I am making hamburger meat gravy and french fries for Prince Charming and my Little Princess. What can I make me that is easy?

Weight Loss Wednesday

I am feeling really motivated today. I feel like this is the week that I make it to the One-derland party. I can do this! When preparing this blog, I was looking at some weight loss quotes and I thought I would share some:

  1. Self delusion is pulling in your stomach when you step on the scales. - Paul Sweeney
