Diet Articles or interest

I read this article here says that people who drink diet soda on a regular basis are obese. Do you think that is true? Do you think it is a result of the diet soda or because the people who are more likely to choose diet soda are the overweight ones? Will you let this article affect your decisions about diet soda?

I read another article here that said that children are more likely to learn about dieting from their family than from the media. Were you affected by food, diet and image talk in your household growing up? Did talk in your house effect your self image? How does this affect your ideas about talking about these subjects around kids?

I know everyone is different but for me, I used to be very addicted to diet coke. I went through 2 cases per week easy, now I won't drink any diet anything that has fake sugar. Instead I have 1 or 2 real cokes per week and really enjoy them.. :-)

I learned about dieting from my mother. We had all kinds of exercise stuff in the house. She was also diabetic so I was raised on diet food. I think that started me on wanting to lose a little weight when I was around 15 and then I got obsessed and had an eatting disorder for 4 years. Now.. after 3 kids I'm overweight. Uggg..

I think your family does influence you some what. I grew up in a family that eat their veggies and drank milk for dinner. I still do this today.

My husband grew up on fast food after his parents split at a young age, never eating veggies, and to this day I have a very hard time getting him to eat some of the veggies I made.

I told him when we have a kid he's gotta be a good role model and eat them with me.

I also wasn't allowed to drink soda when I was young, it wasn't until junior high when they had a vending machine in the gym that I started buying them and drinking them along with the bad proccessed crap in the food vending machine.

Supposedly the sweet taste of diet drinks stimulates a person to want want other sweets. (My 5 wierd things are finally up....honestly, I'm not weird at all so I had a hard time with it! ha!)

I avoid coke and diet coke (and equivalents). The high sugar stuff is, well, high sugar, and the diet is full of obnoxious chemicals. They neither quench your thirst nor do your insides any good. Give me water any time.

Thanks for posting on Losing a Hundredweight. I'm impressed with your commitment and have added a link to your site frommy sidebar.

PS. I went back through my archives, and I have the TACO Soup recipe I told you about under the March Archive. Go to Friday March 17, and it's titled Taco Soup.

Let me know what you think.

Hey! This site's pretty cool. It seems like you've got some pretty nice friends on here.
I'm feeling better, so I'm back in action!
I definitely think my mom's eating habits affected me long-term. She was always watching what I ate for me and telling me to eat less fat because I've always had a weight problem. As a result, as an adult I ate EVERYTHING and ANYTHING I wanted to show her....and just hurt myself. So now I'm on the road to fix my obsession with food and weight, etc.
Thanks for the articles.

Well, what's the alternative? Switching to regular soda? I think that would spell disaster. I mean, yes, we should only drink water, but that gets so boring so quickly! I'm all for a little diet soda to mix things up a bit.
